Keyboard controls: left and right arrow keys set the rudder, up and down arrows work the engine telegraph, W engages the bow thruster, T toggles the thrusters for pivoting on the spot, and M centres the wheel.

Captain.A free ship game. Sixteen real ships, open sea, buried treasure, and a seabed that does not forgive.

How hard do you want it

Your ship

What you're doing out there

Open sea in every direction. Coins drift in deep water; treasure chests sit in the shallows by the islands, worth ten times as much. But gold in your hold is only cargo — it counts for nothing until you've carried it into a harbour and banked it, and if you pile her up on the way home you lose every piece of it.

Work through the contracts, and remember your draught decides everything: where the chests are, and which harbours will even take you.

The controls

The stick is analogue — half a stick is half a rudder. Push it forward as well and the bow thruster shoves her nose the way you're turning; it stops helping above 5 knots. The slider is the engine, and Thrusters overrides it to Stop so you can pivot on the spot. Watch the under-keel reading — speed makes you sit deeper.
Keyboard: ←→ rudder, ↑↓ engine, W thruster, T thrusters, M centre.

The sixteen ships

Every hull is drawn to its true length, beam and draught, and handles accordingly. Turning circle is four ship lengths, so the big ones need over a kilometre and a half to come round.

  • Harbour tug — 32 × 12.6 m, 5.5 m draught. Turns on the spot.
  • Harbour ferry — 58 × 11 m, 3.2 m draught. Goes anywhere.
  • Titanic — 269 × 28.19 m, 10.5 m draught. The oldest hull here.
  • AIDAnova — 337 × 42 m, 8.7 m draught. Shallow for her size.
  • Queen Mary 2 — 345 × 41 m, 10.3 m draught. 30 knots, fastest in the game.
  • Wonder of the Seas — 362 × 47 m, 9.32 m draught. Oasis class.
  • Icon of the Seas — 365 × 48.65 m, 9.3 m draught. Largest cruise ship afloat.
  • Emma Mærsk — 398 × 56.4 m, 15.5 m draught. The original E-class.
  • Ever Given — 400 × 58.8 m, 16 m draught. Blocked the Suez in 2021.
  • Ever Ace — 400 × 61.5 m, 17 m draught. 23,992 TEU.
  • MSC Irina — 400 × 61.3 m, 16.5 m draught. 24,346 TEU.
  • Exxon Valdez — 301 × 50.6 m, 20 m draught. Deep water only.
  • Seawise Giant — 458 × 68.8 m, 24.6 m draught. Longest ship ever built.
  • Esso Atlantic — 407 × 71.07 m, 25.3 m draught.
  • Batillus — 414 × 63.01 m, 28.5 m draught. Deepest draught here.
  • Pioneering Spirit — 382 × 123.75 m, 27 m draught. A catamaran with a 59 m bow slot, and the widest ship afloat.

Questions

Is this ship game free?
Yes. No account, no download, no in-app purchases. It runs in the browser.
Can I play it on my phone?
It's built for touch first — analogue stick for the rudder, notched telegraph for the engine. It plays on desktop too, with arrow keys.
Why can't my ship reach the treasure?
Chests sit in less than 16 metres of water. If she draws more than that she physically cannot get to them, and trying will put her on the bottom. Draught decides where you can sail.
What is squat?
A moving ship sits lower than a stopped one, and the faster she goes the deeper she sits. It's why speed in shallow water puts ships aground. The HUD shows yours live.
Why does the wheel do nothing when I'm barely moving?
A rudder needs water flowing past it. That's what the bow thruster is for, and why the Thrusters button exists — it stops the engines and lets you pivot on the spot.
