What makes it different
Sun Princess is the largest ship Princess Cruises has ever operated and the first it has run on LNG — a jump of more than 30,000 gross tons over the Royal class that preceded her, and the point at which Princess finally built at the scale its parent company's other brands had reached years earlier.
The design is organised around The Dome, a geodesic glass structure sitting high on the ship that Princess describes as inspired by the cliff architecture of Santorini. It is a pool deck in daylight and converts to a theatre for aerial and acrobatic performance after dark — an attempt to solve the problem that large glass spaces at sea usually sit empty in the evening.
She also carries a three-deck Piazza atrium spanning the ship's width, twenty-one decks and around 4,300 guests at double occupancy. Delivered from Fincantieri at Monfalcone in February 2024, she was joined by sister Star Princess the following year.
