The story

What makes it different

Ventura is P&O's version of the Grand class — the same Fincantieri platform that gave Princess Cruises nine ships, fitted out for British families and named by Dame Helen Mirren in 2008.

She and near-twin Azura form the Ventura sub-class, which added two decks over the original Grand-class ships. Six swimming pools, one under a retractable roof, is another concession to Southampton departures and North Atlantic weather.

Carnival Corporation's habit of running one hull across several brands is unusually visible in the P&O fleet: Ventura and Azura are Grand class, Britannia is Royal class, Arcadia is a Vista-class hull, and Iona and Arvia are Excel class. Four platforms, four sister brands, one shipyard group.
