What makes it different
Sky Princess marks the point where the Royal class stopped being a straight repeat. The first three ships came in around 142,700 to 143,700 gross tons; Sky was built to 145,281, and the two ships that followed matched her.
The extra volume went upward. Her Sky Suites sit at the top of the ship with balconies over 700 square feet — the largest in the fleet, and directly above the theatre rather than aft, which is unusual placement for premium accommodation.
She was christened in 2019 by the surviving principal cast of The Love Boat, a piece of branding Princess has leaned on for decades — the show was filmed aboard Pacific Princess in the late 1970s and did more for the line's name recognition than any advertising campaign since.
