How big is it, really?
The AIDAperla's length overall, against things you already know the size of.
The 747-8 held the longest-airliner record for over a decade, until Boeing's 777-9 took it by about 19 inches (76.72 m) — our sibling site aircraft.fyi measures everything that flies the same way.
One AIDAperla = 1.11 Titanics · 2.9 football pitches · 12 blue whales · 3.9 Boeing 747-8s laid end to end.

What makes it different
AIDAperla is the second and final Hyperion-class ship, and part of one of the most costly episodes in modern shipbuilding. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries took the two-ship order to break into the European cruise market and ended up writing off the equivalent of billions of dollars on delays, redesigns and cost overruns.
The company withdrew from large cruise ship construction afterwards, leaving the segment effectively to Fincantieri, Meyer, Chantiers de l'Atlantique and the Korean yards. AIDAperla is the last big passenger ship Mitsubishi delivered.
The ships themselves are well suited to their market: a glass-roofed covered pool and lounge area runs down the centre of the ship, which matters when your customers sail from Hamburg and Kiel rather than Miami.
