What makes it different
Koningsdam broke a six-year pause in Holland America's shipbuilding and reset the line's upper size limit, arriving about 13,000 gross tons larger than the Signature ships that preceded her.
She introduced the two-deck World Stage theatre with its wraparound 270-degree screen, the fleet's first purpose-built family staterooms, and a musical programme unusual for a mainstream line, a dedicated classical venue alongside blues and rock rooms. The interior was designed by Adam D. Tihany, with a hull whose curved balconies were shaped to suggest a musical instrument.
The name is a straightforward tribute: koning is Dutch for king, honouring Willem-Alexander, and Queen Máxima named her at Rotterdam in 2016. Like every Holland America ship since 1873, she ends in -dam.
