The story

What makes it different

Wonder of the Seas was the last and largest expression of the Oasis class — the split-superstructure design from Chantiers de l'Atlantique that put a park with real trees down the middle of a ship and held the world's-largest-cruise-ship record for fifteen straight years across five hulls.

At 236,857 gross tons she took the title from her own sister Symphony in 2022 and kept it until Icon of the Seas arrived in January 2024. Her signature remains the class's Central Park and Boardwalk neighborhoods, open to the sky between the two towers of cabins — a trick of naval architecture that also gives the class its enormous maximum beam.

She actually carries more passengers at double occupancy than the Icon-class ships that dethroned her — 5,734 against 5,610 — a reminder that gross tonnage measures volume, not people. On tonnage she now ranks behind the three Icon sisters and her younger sibling Utopia of the Seas.
