How big is it, really?
The AIDAdiva's length overall, against things you already know the size of.
The 747-8 held the longest-airliner record for over a decade, until Boeing's 777-9 took it by about 19 inches (76.72 m) — our sibling site aircraft.fyi measures everything that flies the same way.
One AIDAdiva = 0.94 Titanics · 2.4 football pitches · 10 blue whales · 3.3 Boeing 747-8s laid end to end.

What makes it different
AIDAdiva is the oldest ship AIDA operates and the lead of the class that made the line what it is. Seven Sphinx-series ships came out of Meyer Werft between 2007 and 2013, and the fleet still runs all seven.
The engineering is straightforward and durable: four Caterpillar MaK 9M43C diesels producing 36,000 kW, twin shafts, fixed-pitch propellers, twin rudders, stabilisers and bow and stern thrusters. She makes nearly 22 knots, which is brisk for a 69,000-ton ship and reflects the long distances between northern European ports.
Every AIDA ship wears the same face — a pair of eyes and a red mouth painted across the bow, by the artist Feliks Büttner. It began as a marketing decision for a single ship in 1996 and became the identity of an entire fleet; on a berth list of grey and white hulls, an AIDA ship is unmistakable.
