How big is it, really?
The Oosterdam's length overall, against things you already know the size of.
The 747-8 held the longest-airliner record for over a decade, until Boeing's 777-9 took it by about 19 inches (76.72 m) — our sibling site aircraft.fyi measures everything that flies the same way.
One Oosterdam = 1.06 Titanics · 2.7 football pitches · 11 blue whales · 3.7 Boeing 747-8s laid end to end.

What makes it different
Oosterdam is the second Vista-class ship, delivered less than a year after the lead vessel — Fincantieri built all four between 2002 and 2006, which is a fast cadence for ships of this size.
Her name means east, completing the second corner of the class's compass set. Holland America has recycled ship names since the nineteenth century, but the Vista quartet is the only time it has built a naming scheme into a single class from the start.
The machinery is the class's most interesting feature: a combined arrangement of diesel engines and a General Electric gas turbine feeding electrical propulsion through Azipod thrusters. Very few cruise ships carry a gas turbine at all, and fewer still combine one with diesels.
