The yard

The story so far

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, on the Yangtze near Jiangyin, is the largest privately owned yard in China and a Singapore-listed rarity in a state-dominated industry. Its crowning delivery is MSC Irina — at 24,346 TEU the largest container ship ever built.

The yard rose from river shipbuilding to the megamax club within two decades, and its order book for MSC alone runs to dozens of hulls — the private yard building for the private line at the top of world shipping.
