What makes it different
Noordam closed the Vista class in 2006 and completed one of the tidiest naming schemes in cruising: her three sisters are Zuiderdam, Oosterdam and Westerdam — south, east and west in Dutch — and she is north.
The class name refers to something else entirely: the extensive glazing in the superstructure, which gave the ships far more exterior glass than Holland America's earlier vessels. It is the visual signature of the group.
She carries museum-quality art including an 1842 oil painting of Utrecht, which is characteristic of the line — Holland America spends real money on fleet art collections and treats them as part of the product rather than decoration. At around 83,000 gross tons she is favoured for Alaska and longer voyages.
