What makes it different
Royal Princess is the ship that set the shape of the modern Princess fleet. She arrived in 2013 at 142,714 gross tons, around 27,000 more than the largest Grand-class ship, and every Princess ship built in the following decade descended from her.
Two ideas came with her. The Piazza, a three-deck atrium at the centre of the ship with cafés and shops stacked around it, replaced the traditional single-height lobby. And the SeaWalk, a glass-floored walkway cantilevered about 8.5 metres beyond the hull and 39 metres above the water, gave Princess a feature no competitor had.
She was christened at Southampton in June 2013 by the Duchess of Cambridge, in her first public engagement after her wedding, and the third Princess ship to carry the Royal name.
