The story

What makes it different

Norwegian Viva is the second Prima-class ship and, with her lead sister, represents a genuine reversal of direction: after four Breakaway-Plus ships that grew steadily to 169,116 gross tons, NCL went back down to 142,500 and cut passenger numbers by nearly a quarter.

The trade was space per person. The Prima ships carry around 3,100 guests where the Breakaway-Plus ships carry close to 4,000, and the reclaimed volume went into wider outdoor decks, a three-deck glass atrium and Ocean Boulevard, a promenade wrapping the entire ship at Deck 8.

She keeps the three-level go-kart track and adds a free-fall dry slide, but the intent of the class is calmer than that suggests — the reviews that matter to NCL were the ones about crowding, and this is the design answer to them.
