The story

What makes it different

Costa Serena is the second Concordia-class ship and the one Costa chose to finish its modernisation programme on — a roughly €200 million, five-year effort across the fleet that concluded with her dry-docking in late 2025.

Her theme is classical antiquity, with public spaces named for Roman gods and a decorative programme heavy on statuary. It is a long way from the Nordic restraint of the Excel ships, and entirely deliberate: Costa sells an Italian product to a mostly Southern European market.

After the refit she was sent long-haul — a world voyage from Tokyo to Buenos Aires through 2026, before returning to a Savona base in 2027. For a nineteen-year-old ship that is a substantial vote of confidence.
