The story

What makes it different

MSC Seaside was a deliberate break from how large cruise ships were being drawn in the 2010s. Instead of pulling life inward into a covered promenade, Fincantieri and MSC pushed it outward: waterfront promenades at sea level running most of the ship's length, a wraparound boardwalk, glass-floored skywalks over the hull's edge, and an aft that steps down in terraces to the water.

The design brief was geographic. Seaside was MSC's first ship built specifically for the Caribbean out of Miami, a market where an enclosed weather-proof main street solves a problem that does not exist, and where deck space is the product.

She entered service in December 2017 at 153,516 gross tons and founded a class of four. The idea proved durable enough that the stretched Seaside EVO ships repeated it almost unchanged five years later — unusual in a segment where each generation normally rethinks the layout entirely.
