The story

What makes it different

Costa Favolosa is the fifth of six Concordia-class ships and effectively a twin of Costa Fascinosa, delivered ten months apart from the same yard to the same drawings.

The class is the backbone of what Costa still operates: four of the six remain with the line, and at around 113,000 gross tons they handle the itineraries the LNG flagships cannot — smaller Mediterranean ports, South America, and repositioning runs where a 185,000-ton ship would be uneconomic.

Costa's ship names are adjectives rather than places — Favolosa means fabulous, Fascinosa fascinating, Deliziosa delightful, Serena serene. It is a naming convention no other major line uses, and it makes the fleet instantly identifiable on a berth list.
