What makes it different
Discovery Princess is the last of six Royal-class ships and the most refined version of a design Princess ran for nine years. She arrived in March 2022 at 145,281 gross tons — roughly 2,500 more than the class lead — and was the fleet's largest ship until Sun Princess arrived two years later.
The Royal-class signature is the Piazza, a three-deck atrium at the ship's centre with the shops and cafés stacked around it, and the SeaWalk — a glass-floored walkway cantilevered out over the side of the ship, eighteen decks above the water.
Her delivery slipped by two years because of the pandemic, and she entered service into a market still recovering. She has since settled into the deployment pattern Princess is best known for: Alaska in summer out of Seattle, Mexican Riviera in winter out of Los Angeles.
